ETHICS IN TECH

Ethics in Tech engages and enlightens young people about the role of ethics in digital technologies. Activities include an interactive experience about algorithmic bias, an online badge about the role of ethics and a digital ethicist when creating products and services, and exploring online safety, security, and social media.

BUILDING TRUST

IN THE DIGITAL ERA

With support from the Scottish Government and as part of their recommendations on ‘Building Trust in the Digital Era’, Digital Xtra managed the development of three new activities to engage and enlighten young people about Ethics in Technology. The goal was not only to teach young people the skills needed to create with technology, but also encourage and empower them to understand what societal elements must be considered beyond technical needs as well.

The Ethics in Tech activities include:

  • ‘Tech We Trust’ in partnership with Digital Skills Education

  • ‘Ethics of Online Safety and Security (Maddie is Online)’ in partnership with Robert Gordon University

  • ‘Gold-level Digital Ethics Badge’ in partnership with iDEA

The results were from the Ethics in Tech activities were wide reaching and impressive. More importantly, each activity is still publicly and freely available for educators to use to engage and enlighten young people about ethics in digital technology.

Digital Xtra encourages anyone working with young people in computing and AI to explore and use these resources to help young people learn to question and understand how technology can impact themselves as well as their families and communities.
