OUR WORK

Digital Xtra is a registered charity whose goal is for every young person in Scotland to have access to innovative, meaningful, and creative extracurricular computing activities regardless of their gender, background, or where they live.

Since 2016, Digital Xtra has supported and delivered a variety of programmes to help schools and community organisations engage children and young people in tech including its popular 'Grant Awards’ programme; activities focussed on ‘Ethics in Tech’; activities for industry in ‘Code Like Kids’; and its newest strategy, ‘Code Xtra’.

Details about every initiative and activity ever supported by Digital Xtra can be found on our Programmes page.

Starting in 2026, Digital Xtra will work with selected delivery partners to develop a national network of community coding hubs through a new strategy called Code Xtra. The coding hubs will in turn deliver activities for the local community, offer instruction and guidance for local educators, and where possible, act as a lending library with equipment and resources to help other clubs/organisations.

Digital Xtra managed the creation of three new activities to engage and enlighten young people about ethics in technology which are still publicly available. The goal is to not only teach young people the technical skills needed to create with technology, but to also empower them to understand social elements that must be considered as well and how to incorporate these values into the design process.
