Starting in 2026, Digital Xtra will work with selected delivery partners to develop a national network of community coding hubs through a new strategy called Code Xtra. The coding hubs will in turn deliver activities for the local community, offer instruction and guidance for local educators, and where possible, act as a lending library with equipment and resources to help other clubs/organisations.
From 2016 to 2025, Digital Xtra awarded over Β£1.1 million to 210 initiatives across Scotland as part of itβs annual Grant Awards programme. Schools and organisations actively involved in the provision of extracurricular computing education and/or digital technologies activities for young people could apply for up to Β£5,000 for their initiative
Code Like Kids is a unique, hands-on learning and development opportunity for adults which also encourages industry professionals to volunteer with their local tech club. It features activities and devices used by young people when learning to code. Participants require no previous coding experience β itβs all about increasing confidence, improving team dynamics, and having fun!
Digital Xtra managed the development of three different activities to engage and enlighten young people about ethics in technology and these activities are still available for educators. The goal is to not only teach young people the skills needed to create with technology, but to also empower them to understand social elements that must be considered beyond technical needs as well.
